Top 10 sales and marketing use cases for AI agents in Insurance
Ten workflows for life, health, motor and commercial insurers, brokers and insurtechs, each with its trigger, its systems, its steps and the single point where a person signs off.
What can AI agents do for insurance sales and marketing teams today?AI agents can already run health and motor renewal reminders, chase life premiums before persistency slips, prepare needs-based bancassurance briefs, reactivate dormant POSPs and assemble group health renewal packs. On the marketing side they fix quote-journey drop-offs and build compliant launch kits from filed product wording. A person approves every customer-facing output.
Quote-journey drop-off fixes for term and health insurance
Online buyers often abandon between the premium quote and payment, at the medical questions, income proof or e-KYC. An agent finds where and why each week and proposes paid search and page changes that the digital marketing head signs off.
the workflow
- Every Monday, pull the last week’s quote funnel from GA4 and the quote engine logs by product, device and campaign.
- Flag the steps where drop-off rose, such as the medical questionnaire, income proof upload or e-KYC.
- Match each spike to the Google Ads search terms and landing pages that fed it.
- Draft page copy tests, negative keywords and ad text changes, keeping the product name and UIN intact.
- Human approval: The digital marketing head approves the tests and ad changes before anything goes live.
- Launch the approved changes and report quote-to-issuance by step the following week.
Guardrail. Google runs insurance ads in India only for advertisers verified under its financial services policy with their IRDAI registration, and every ad must meet the IRDAI (Insurance Advertisements and Disclosure) Regulations, 2021.
Launch kits for newly filed plans and riders
When a new plan or rider clears filing, product, marketing and distribution each write their own version of it. An agent drafts one consistent launch kit from the filed documents, and compliance clears it once.
the workflow
- Start when product management marks a new plan or rider as filed and approved in the product register.
- Read the policy wording, Customer Information Sheet and benefit illustration to extract cover, exclusions and waiting periods.
- Draft the web page, sales FAQ, one-page explainer and search ad copy from those documents only.
- Tag every claim in the drafts with the clause it came from.
- Human approval: Compliance approves the kit against the filed wording and the advertisement rules.
- Publish to the website and sales portal and log each advertisement with its approval reference.
Guardrail. No asset may promise a benefit the filed policy wording does not contain, under the IRDAI (Insurance Advertisements and Disclosure) Regulations, 2021.
Approved creative kits for agents, POSPs and brokers
Field agents and POSPs make their own WhatsApp posters when head office is slow, and that is where misleading claims creep in. An agent produces a monthly kit of approved, regional-language creative so partners have no reason to improvise.
the workflow
- On the first working day of each month, take the campaign calendar and the top products by partner channel.
- Draft WhatsApp status images, short captions and posters in the languages each region sells in.
- Add the insurer’s registered name, the product name and the UIN to every asset.
- Human approval: The marketing compliance officer approves each asset and records its approval reference.
- Publish the kit to the partner app or portal with a note on which products each partner may sell.
- Track downloads and shares by region and flag partners still using retired creative.
Guardrail. Under the IRDAI advertisement rules, distribution channels advertise only to solicit the insurer’s products and must never imply they are the insurer.
Consent-checked lead ads for term cover with call-back routing
Term insurance lead forms on Meta and YouTube bring volume, but many leads go cold before tele-sales calls. An agent checks consent, removes duplicates and routes each lead within minutes, so the right team calls while intent is fresh.
the workflow
- Trigger on each new lead from a Meta lead form or a Google Ads lead form asset.
- Check that the form captured call-back consent and the time window the buyer chose.
- Remove duplicates against the CRM and existing policyholders, then score on age band, cover asked and city.
- Human approval: The sales manager approves the scoring rules and call scripts before they are used.
- Route each lead to the right tele-sales queue or advisor in the CRM.
- Report contact rate and issued policies by ad set back to the media team every day.
Guardrail. Promotional calls in India go out only from TRAI’s 140-series numbers under the 2025 telecom commercial communication amendments, and US campaigns run under Meta’s financial products and services special ad category with its targeting limits.
Complaint and claim-rejection themes turned into explainers
Many insurance complaints trace back to something the buyer did not understand at sale, such as room-rent limits or waiting periods. An agent reads the month’s grievances and rejection reasons and drafts the explainers and script fixes that would have prevented them.
the workflow
- Each month, pull grievance logs from the complaints system and rejection reasons from the claims platform.
- Group them into themes such as waiting periods, room-rent limits, pre-existing disease disclosure and sub-limits.
- Find the sales scripts, web pages and brochures where each theme is explained poorly or not at all.
- Draft plain-language explainers, an updated sales FAQ and worked examples for each theme.
- Human approval: The head of customer experience and compliance approve the explainers and script changes.
- Publish them and track whether the same complaint themes fall over the next quarter.
Guardrail. Explainers must say the same thing as the product’s Customer Information Sheet, required by IRDAI’s 2024 master circular on protection of policyholders’ interests, and never quote an identifiable customer.
Health and motor renewal desk with portability-aware reminders
Retail renewals are premium the insurer has already won, yet the reminder is often one generic SMS. An agent works the renewal list daily, tailors each reminder to the policy’s history and hands the at-risk customers to a renewal advisor.
the workflow
- Each morning, pull policies due for renewal in the next 45 days from the policy administration system.
- Flag lapse risks such as a claim this year, a failed auto-debit, a premium increase or a portability request.
- Draft WhatsApp and email reminders showing the renewal premium, any change from last year and the grace period.
- Human approval: The retention manager approves the message templates and any wording about premium changes.
- Send the approved reminders and route high-value or at-risk customers to a renewal advisor.
- Log every contact and outcome in the CRM for the next cycle.
Guardrail. In India the grace period stated must match IRDAI’s 2024 health insurance master circular, and in the UK the FCA’s pricing rules bar quoting a renewing customer more than an equivalent new customer.
Life premium-due follow-up to protect 13th-month persistency
Early lapses hurt both the insurer’s persistency and the customer’s cover, and the advisor who sold the policy often hears too late. An agent works the premium-due and failed-mandate lists daily so advisors call before the grace period ends.
the workflow
- Each day, pull premiums due in the next 30 days and failed auto-debit or NACH mandates from the policy system.
- Rank each policy by lapse risk using payment history, premium size and policy age.
- Draft a customer reminder and a call brief for the selling advisor, including the benefits at stake.
- Human approval: The persistency manager approves the reminder templates and any script that mentions benefits or surrender values.
- Send the reminders, push call briefs to advisors and record each outcome.
- Report persistency by advisor, branch and channel every week.
Guardrail. Reminders state the benefits a customer would lose accurately and never pressure a customer who has asked to surrender or cancel.
Bancassurance branch briefs built on needs, not loan files
Banks are a major channel for life insurance in India, and bank-led selling has drawn public warnings about forced selling. An agent prepares a needs-based brief for the relationship manager, so the conversation starts from the customer’s goals and the evidence is kept.
the workflow
- Trigger when a bank customer books an advisory meeting or responds to an insurance campaign, never on a loan disbursal.
- Assemble a brief from consented data: life stage, dependants, existing cover and stated goals.
- Suggest suitable product types with reasons, and the questions the relationship manager should ask.
- Prepare the benefit illustration and Customer Information Sheet for each product discussed.
- Human approval: The branch manager approves the recommendation record before the proposal form is raised.
- Log the needs analysis, consent and documents shared against the proposal for audit.
Guardrail. Insurance is never made a condition of a loan or bundled with one, a practice IRDAI and the finance ministry have warned banks against.
Dormant POSP and agent reactivation by product and region
Large partner networks carry many registered POSPs and agents who sold once and stopped. An agent finds who went quiet, works out the likely reason from their history and drafts a reactivation plan for the channel manager to run.
the workflow
- Each month, pull the partner production report and flag POSPs and agents with no business in 60 days.
- Group them by likely cause, such as no training on a new product, a rejected case or a payout delay.
- Draft reactivation messages, training invitations and product updates for each group.
- Human approval: The channel manager approves the messages and any incentive they mention.
- Send through the partner app and WhatsApp, and book relationship manager calls for the highest-potential partners.
- Track first case after reactivation and repeat sales over the following quarter.
Guardrail. Messages promote only products within each partner’s registration and never offer rewards outside the insurer’s approved commission and incentive structure.
Group health renewal packs for HR and finance leaders
Group health renewals are won or lost on how clearly the insurer or broker explains claims experience and the options. An agent assembles the renewal pack from claims and enrolment data, and the account manager shapes it before HR and finance see it.
the workflow
- Trigger 90 days before a group policy’s renewal date in the CRM.
- Pull aggregated claims experience, utilisation by benefit and enrolment changes from TPA reports.
- Draft renewal options, such as changing the room-rent limit, co-pay or parental cover, with the premium effect of each.
- Write a summary for the HR head and a cost view for the CFO.
- Human approval: The account manager approves the pack, the options and every premium figure before it goes to the client.
- Send the pack, book the review meeting and track open questions until the renewal is signed.
Guardrail. The pack uses aggregated claims data only and never identifies an employee’s health condition, in line with the purpose limits of India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Frequently asked questions
Is it compliant to let an AI agent draft insurance advertisements?
It can be, provided a person approves before anything is published and drafts come only from the filed product documents. In India the IRDAI (Insurance Advertisements and Disclosure) Regulations, 2021 apply to every advertisement whoever drafts it, and in the UK the FCA’s FG24/1 guidance holds firms responsible for promotions made on their behalf, including on social media. Nagent agents propose; your compliance team approves.
Where should an insurer start with AI agents in sales and marketing?
Start with renewals or persistency. The data already sits in the policy administration system, the outcome is easy to measure and the customer has already chosen you. A renewal desk also exposes the data gaps you will need to close before wider work.
What data do the agents need?
Mostly exports you already produce: renewal and premium-due lists, the quote funnel, the partner production report, grievance logs and TPA claims reports. Agents should work only with consented data and use aggregated claims data for group business. Your CRM, whether Salesforce, LeadSquared or HubSpot, stays the system of record.
What does it cost to get this wrong in insurance?
The cost is mis-selling: a policy the customer did not understand, a free-look cancellation, a complaint or a regulatory finding. In the UK the Consumer Duty and the FCA’s pricing rules put customer understanding and renewal pricing under scrutiny, and in India regulators have publicly warned banks about forced selling. That is why every workflow here keeps one named human approval on anything a customer sees.
