Accelerating Early Autism Detection

Overview

A leading Pediatric Development Clinic from Bengaluru, specializing in early childhood development partnered with Nagent AI to address a critical challenge: the rising number of children requiring developmental assessments and the shortage of clinicians available to evaluate them. Using Nagent AI’s Agent Builder, the clinic created an AI agent capable of screening early signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) using parent questionnaires and video footage of children. The goal was to support clinicians and therapists in identifying risk indicators earlier, more consistently, and at greater scale.

The Challenge

Traditional autism screening requires extensive clinician time, detailed observation, and structured parent interviews. With growing caseloads, the clinic needed a more efficient way to pre-screen children and prioritize those requiring full diagnostic evaluation. Key challenges included variability in parent reporting, time-consuming video-based behavioural observation, limited clinician hours for screening and documentation, and high demand for early developmental intervention.

The Solution

Using Nagent AI’s no-code, multi-agent framework, the clinic developed an AI-driven Early Autism Screening Agent that analyzes parent questionnaires for behavioural red flags, reviews short video clips of children to detect early signs such as atypical eye contact, repetitive movements, or delayed social engagement, generates structured reports summarizing risk indicators, and supports clinicians with consistent, evidence-based insights for final diagnosis. The agent works as a clinical decision-support tool, not a diagnostic engine — enabling therapists to make more accurate and timely assessments.

The Result

The clinic saw over 2,000 children (aged 2-10) screened using the AI agent, leading to faster triaging and allowing earlier intervention for high-risk cases. There was higher diagnostic accuracy through standardized pre-assessment and a significantly reduced clinician workload, allowing more time for therapy and parent counselling.

Impact

This case demonstrates how healthcare domain experts can use Nagent AI to build life-changing tools. The Early Autism Screening Agent enhances early detection, improves clinician efficiency, and ensures that children receive the right care at the right time — when early intervention matters most.
