Top agentic AI use cases for FMCG in H2 2026

AI answers now sit between shoppers and products, checkout is moving inside chat, and regulators have turned to dark patterns, consent and online labelling. These eight use cases respond to what changed in 2025 and 2026.

Which agentic AI use cases should FMCG brands prioritise in H2 2026?In H2 2026 FMCG brands should prioritise keeping product facts consistent wherever AI engines read them, preparing product feeds for agentic checkout, auditing D2C journeys for dark patterns, rebuilding consent records ahead of the DPDP Rules, and resolving order and expiry queries through Convexa, with people approving claims, refunds and notices.

Product fact consistency across every page AI engines read

AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini answer “which high-protein atta is best” from brand sites, marketplace listings and reviews, and they repeat whatever is inconsistent. An agent keeps pack sizes, nutrition values and claims identical across every surface and tests what the engines say each week.

the workflow

  1. A weekly panel of category questions runs across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
  2. Record which brands are named, which facts are stated and which pages are cited.
  3. Compare the stated facts with master product data: pack sizes, nutrition values, ingredients and claims.
  4. Draft corrections for the brand site, Amazon, Flipkart and quick commerce listings, plus structured data.
  5. Human approval: The brand manager and regulatory lead approve every corrected fact and claim.
  6. Publish the approved fixes and re-test the same questions the following week.

Guardrail. Corrections never add a nutrition or health claim that the FSS (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018 do not permit, however much it might help win an answer.

Product feeds ready for checkout inside ChatGPT and Google AI Mode

OpenAI and Stripe launched Instant Checkout with the Agentic Commerce Protocol in September 2025, and Google has since added checkout in AI Mode on its Universal Commerce Protocol, starting in the US. For D2C brands selling in launch markets, an agent prepares the product feed and the rules for what AI agents may sell.

the workflow

  1. A market opens for agentic checkout, or the Shopify catalogue changes.
  2. Audit the feed for titles, variants, prices, stock, images, shipping and return terms.
  3. Fill gaps from master product data and flag SKUs with missing declarations or restricted claims.
  4. Propose which SKUs, bundles and offers to expose to agent checkout and which to hold back.
  5. Human approval: The e-commerce head approves the SKUs, prices and offers exposed to AI agents.
  6. Publish the feed through Merchant Center or the commerce platform’s integration and monitor agent-originated orders.

Guardrail. Feed prices, sizes and claims match the pack and the rules of each market, with no fees added at the last step, which India’s CCPA treats as drip pricing.

Dark pattern self-audit of D2C checkout and subscription flows

The CCPA’s June 2025 advisory asked e-commerce platforms to self-audit for dark patterns, and the 2023 guidelines also bind sellers and advertisers. An agent walks every journey on the brand’s own site and app, logs the patterns the guidelines name and drafts fixes for product and legal teams.

the workflow

  1. Each release of the D2C site or app, and a monthly scheduled run, triggers the audit.
  2. Walk the product page, cart, checkout, subscription sign-up and cancellation journeys.
  3. Log practices the guidelines name, such as false urgency, basket sneaking, subscription traps and drip pricing, plus any pre-ticked boxes.
  4. Draft fixes with screenshots and the clause each one addresses.
  5. Human approval: The legal lead approves the findings, the fixes and any self-declaration.
  6. Re-run the journeys after release to confirm each fix is live.

Guardrail. Measure against the Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns, 2023 and the explicit consent rule in the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, never against what competitors appear to get away with.

Convexa for order, expiry and damaged-pack queries on WhatsApp

Shoppers now message brands directly about short-dated stock, leaking packs and wrong items from D2C and quick commerce orders. Convexa answers on WhatsApp and the website, checks the order, applies the replacement policy and routes anything that could be a safety issue to the quality team.

the workflow

  1. A shopper messages the brand’s WhatsApp number with an order ID and a photo.
  2. Identify the order, product, batch and channel, and read the photo for expiry date and damage.
  3. Resolve routine cases within policy, or explain how to raise them with the quick commerce platform’s own support.
  4. Route any illness, foreign matter or allergen report to the quality team at once, with the evidence attached.
  5. Human approval: The customer care lead approves refunds above the set limit and every reply to a safety complaint.
  6. Log the batch and issue so quality and supply teams see patterns by SKU and city.

Guardrail. Convexa never gives a medical opinion or closes a food safety complaint on its own, and it treats short-dated deliveries against FSSAI’s 2024 advice on minimum remaining shelf life at delivery.

Consent records rebuilt ahead of the DPDP Rules deadlines

The DPDP Rules, 2025 were notified in November 2025, with most obligations applying 18 months later. FMCG brands collect consumer data in many small places, from contests and sampling QR codes to WhatsApp opt-ins and loyalty forms, and an agent maps each one and drafts the notices the privacy team needs.

the workflow

  1. The privacy team starts its readiness review, or a new consumer data form is created.
  2. Inventory every capture point: contest microsites, QR campaigns, WhatsApp opt-ins, D2C sign-ups and agency-run lists.
  3. Record what each one collects, the purpose stated, where the data is stored and who processes it.
  4. Draft plain-language notices in each language the brand sells in, and re-permission messages for existing lists.
  5. Human approval: The data protection officer approves each notice, purpose and re-permission flow.
  6. Mark contacts without valid consent as do-not-contact in the CRM until they re-permit.

Guardrail. Follow the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules, 2025: consent tied to a stated purpose, withdrawal as easy as giving consent, and no reuse of contest or sampling data for unrelated marketing.

Replenishment reminders for D2C staples without subscription traps

Coffee, detergent, pet food and skincare refills are bought on a rhythm, and D2C brands lose repeat orders to quick commerce when they miss it. An agent predicts each customer’s next need from order history and sends a timely reminder that is easy to ignore.

the workflow

  1. A customer’s predicted run-out date approaches, based on pack size and past order gaps.
  2. Check consent, recent complaints and whether a reminder was already sent.
  3. Draft a short reminder with a one-tap reorder link and no pre-selected add-ons.
  4. Human approval: The CRM manager approves the templates, timing rules and any discount used.
  5. Send by email or WhatsApp and stop after a set number of reminders with no response.
  6. Report repeat rate and opt-outs by product and customer cohort.

Guardrail. Subscriptions stay opt-in with cancellation as easy as sign-up, since the CCPA dark patterns guidelines name subscription traps and basket sneaking.

Review integrity checks across Amazon, Flipkart and Nykaa

Sampling, influencer kits and loyalty perks all generate reviews, and undisclosed or bought reviews are now a regulatory issue in India and the US. Echo watches review patterns across marketplaces and flags anything that could look bought, so the brand corrects it before a regulator or platform does.

the workflow

  1. A review spike, a run of five-star reviews from new accounts or a review mentioning a free sample appears.
  2. Match the reviews against sampling, influencer and loyalty campaign lists.
  3. Flag reviews that may be incentivised without disclosure, and review requests sent only to happy customers.
  4. Draft replies to genuine negative reviews and a fix for any campaign that asked for reviews improperly.
  5. Human approval: The brand manager approves public replies and any change to review request practice.
  6. Report review health by SKU and channel each month.
runs on nagentEcho

measure it byReviews flagged as possibly incentivised, Response time to negative reviews, Average rating by SKU

Guardrail. Never buy, write or selectively solicit reviews; follow IS 19000:2022 on online consumer reviews in India and the FTC rule banning fake reviews and testimonials in the US.

Less healthy food ad screening for UK and export launches

Since 5 January 2026 the UK has banned paid online ads for identifiable less healthy food and drink, with an exemption for brand-only ads. Indian snack, sweet and drink brands launching in the UK need every SKU screened before a paid post goes live, and an agent does the first pass.

the workflow

  1. A UK or other export campaign brief is added to the media plan.
  2. List each SKU in the brief with the nutrient profile score and category status supplied by the regulatory team.
  3. Flag in-scope products and propose brand-only creative or out-of-scope SKUs instead.
  4. Check claims and labelling against the target market’s rules and the approved claims list.
  5. Human approval: The international regulatory lead approves which SKUs and creatives may run in paid media.
  6. Set up the approved campaigns in Meta Ads Manager and Google Ads with the market restrictions recorded.

Guardrail. Treat the UK restrictions on less healthy food and drink advertising, enforced online by the ASA, as absolute for identifiable in-scope products, and route any classification doubt to a person.

Frequently asked questions

Why does AI search matter for FMCG brands now?

Pew Research Center found that Google users clicked a traditional result on 8 percent of visits when an AI summary appeared, against 15 percent when it did not. For low-price, high-frequency products, the answer often settles the shortlist. Brands need the facts AI engines repeat to be correct and consistent everywhere they are published.

Is agentic checkout relevant for Indian FMCG brands yet?

Agentic checkout launched first in the US, through OpenAI’s Instant Checkout and Google’s checkout in AI Mode. McKinsey estimates agentic commerce could orchestrate $3 trillion to $5 trillion of global retail revenue by 2030. Indian brands selling D2C abroad should prepare feeds now; at home, clean product data is the step that pays off on every channel.

Which compliance deadlines affect FMCG marketing in 2026 and 2027?

The CCPA’s June 2025 advisory asked platforms to self-audit for dark patterns, and the 2023 guidelines apply to brands’ own sites too. Under the DPDP Rules, 2025, consent manager provisions apply from November 2026 and most obligations from May 2027. Brands advertising in the UK have faced restrictions on less healthy food ads since January 2026.

How much autonomy should these agents get?

Start with agents proposing and people approving every claim, refund, notice and customer-facing message. Widen autonomy only for narrow, reversible actions where proposals have been accepted unchanged over a sustained period, such as routine order status replies. Safety complaints, health claims and consent notices stay with people.
