Gen AI catalog management software uses generative models to fill in and maintain product content at scale: enriching attributes, writing descriptions, sorting products into your taxonomy, producing image and variant content, shaping listings for each marketplace feed and checking quality, with people reviewing before anything goes live. It usually sits inside or on top of a product information management (PIM) system. Here is what it does, what to look for, and where Nagent fits.

What does gen AI catalog management software do?

A product catalog is thousands of records that each need the same few things done well. Generative AI helps with six jobs.

Attribute enrichment

Most catalogs have gaps: a missing material, an empty care instruction, a size chart nobody filled in. Enrichment reads what you already have, such as the supplier sheet, the product title and the image, and proposes values for the empty fields. Good tools show where each proposed value came from, so a person can accept or reject it quickly.

Product descriptions

From structured attributes, the model drafts titles, bullets and long descriptions in your brand voice, often in several lengths and languages. The value is consistency across thousands of products, not one beautiful paragraph.

Categorisation and taxonomy

Every channel has its own category tree. The software maps each product to your internal taxonomy and to each channel's categories, and flags products that fit nowhere or fit two places at once.

Images and variant content

Generative image tools make packshots, lifestyle scenes, cut-outs and resized versions from a product photo, so each colourway or channel gets the image it needs. On Nagent, this is the part covered most directly: RUPA makes product photoshoots from your own product shot.

Marketplace listings and feeds

Each marketplace and shopping channel wants a different title length, a different set of required attributes and different image rules. The software reshapes one master record into a listing or feed row for each destination, then reports what each channel rejected.

Quality checks and human review

Generated content needs checking before it reaches a shopper. Rules catch banned claims, missing required fields, wrong units and off-brand words, and a review queue lets a person approve, edit or reject in bulk.

How is it different from a PIM?

A PIM is the system of record: the one place your product data lives, with its data model, versions and workflows. Gen AI catalog management is a layer of work on that data. Some PIM vendors now build generative features in. Other tools sit beside the PIM and read from it and write back to it.

The distinction matters when you buy. If you do not yet have a clean system of record, adding generation on top of messy data produces more messy data, faster. If you do have one, the question is whether its built-in AI is enough or whether a separate tool does a specific job better.

What should you look for when choosing a gen AI catalog management solution?

Use this checklist when you compare software.

  • Question: Where does the product data live, and does the tool write back to it?, Why it matters: A tool that cannot write back creates a second copy to reconcile

  • Question: Can it show the source of every generated value?, Why it matters: Reviewers approve faster when they can see why

  • Question: Does it follow your attribute model and taxonomy, not a generic one?, Why it matters: Generic categories break your filters and feeds

  • Question: How does it handle brand voice and banned claims?, Why it matters: One wrong claim repeated across a range is costly

  • Question: Can a person review in bulk, with edits tracked?, Why it matters: Thousands of products will not be reviewed one by one

  • Question: Which channels does it produce feeds or listings for?, Why it matters: Each channel has its own rules

  • Question: How are images generated, and do they stay true to the real product?, Why it matters: A product image that does not match what arrives drives returns

  • Question: How is usage priced?, Why it matters: Per product, per seat or per generation changes the total a lot

Then run a pilot on a few hundred real products, including your worst-maintained category. Measure how many generated values a reviewer accepts without editing. That number tells you more than any demo.

Which tools offer generative AI for product catalogs?

Several established PIM and product experience platforms now include generative features. Three examples, in their own words:

  • Akeneo describes itself as an "Agentic Product Cloud", and lists text and image enrichment with its generative AI. (akeneo.com)

  • Salsify describes itself as an intelligent product experience management (PXM) platform, with AI features such as content translation. (salsify.com)

  • Pimcore brings PIM, MDM, DAM and commerce together on one platform, with a free open core Community Edition. (pimcore.com)

Compare them, and any others on your list, against the checklist above using your own products.

Where does Nagent fit in catalog work?

Honestly: Nagent is not catalog management software and not a PIM. Nagent is multiplayer AI for growth: people and AI agents in one shared context, delivering the number. It does not store your master product data, enrich attributes, map taxonomies, sync feeds or publish listings to marketplaces. If that is the job, a PIM with built-in AI is the right category.

Where Nagent helps is the growth work around the catalog, and that work touches product content in four places.

Product images with RUPA

RUPA is the image studio on the content team. Product photoshoots come in two presets: a packshot on a studio sweep, or the product in use in a lifestyle scene. You attach the product shot that must appear, and you can relight a plate or cut the subject out afterwards. Brand Lock sends your brand guidelines with every render by default, and with approval per render nothing renders until a person clicks "Approve and run". The Content room also has a Product shoot workflow, where RUPA plans the shot list and each render waits for its own approval.

Product videos with Alpha

Alpha makes product ad videos from your product image and your copy. A product shot only ever renders from your product's own image, never from words alone, and Alpha renders only after a person approves.

Content grounded in what you sell

CREA, the AI Content Chief of Staff, leads the team that writes blog posts, emails, posts and scripts. The team reads what you sell from Products and services, so product names are never invented, and nothing is published, scheduled or sent by CREA. A person approves it.

Shopping campaigns with NIA

NIA, the performance marketing lead on Marketing, drafts Shopping and Performance Max campaigns among others, and every campaign she creates arrives paused. Shopping ads are built from the product data you already keep in Google Merchant Center. NIA works on the campaign, not on the feed.

Can you build a catalog agent on Nagent?

You can build a custom agent for one defined slice of catalog work, and it is worth being precise about what that means.

In Agent Workbench you describe the job in one sentence, such as "draft descriptions for new products from our product sheet, in our brand voice, for review". The builder asks questions and drafts the agent's skills, tools, triggers, guardrails and autonomy, and nothing exists until you press Provision agent. The steps are in creating an agent.

To reach your store or PIM, connect it from Integrations. Nagent connects hundreds of tools via Composio, plus your own API, and you choose which actions agents may call. Composio offers a Shopify toolkit with product actions, for example. Reads run on their own; anything that creates, changes or deletes waits for a person until the agent reaches L4 Represent, and a person decides every step up the autonomy ladder.

Treat this as a build project to test on a small set of products, not as a catalog platform. You define the attribute model, the review rules and the write-back yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is gen AI catalog management software?

It is software that uses generative AI to create and maintain product catalog content: attributes, descriptions, categories, images, channel listings and quality checks, with a person reviewing before anything goes live.

Is generative AI catalog management software a replacement for a PIM?

Usually not. A PIM is the system of record for product data. Generative AI works on that data, either built into the PIM or in a tool that reads from it and writes back to it.

What should a gen AI catalog management software solution include?

Write-back to your system of record, a source for every generated value, your own attribute model and taxonomy, brand voice and claim rules, bulk human review, the channels you sell on, and image generation that stays true to the real product.

Is Nagent AI catalog management software?

No. Nagent does not manage product data or feeds. It makes product images with RUPA and product videos with Alpha, writes content grounded in what you sell, runs Shopping campaigns with NIA, and lets you build a custom agent for a defined catalog task.

What should you do next?

If your catalog is in good shape and the bottleneck is product images, ads and content that sell it, see how RUPA makes product photoshoots, read about building your own agent, or book a demo and we will show what fits your range.
