Top agentic AI use cases for education in H2 2026

Students now shortlist programmes through AI assistants, international demand has moved between destinations, and new consent, disclosure and loan rules arrive on fixed dates. These ten use cases respond to what changed in 2025 and 2026.

Which agentic AI use cases should education providers prioritise in H2 2026?Education providers should prioritise agentic work that follows how students now choose: being cited when students ask AI assistants for the best programme, running an admissions assistant that discloses it is AI, handling under-18 data under India’s DPDP Rules and the amended US COPPA Rule, checking result claims before regulators do, and rebalancing international recruitment across destinations.

Programme visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews

Students now ask AI assistants for “the best MBA in” a city or “a good data science course” before they visit any university site: an EAB survey reported by ICEF Monitor found 46% of US high school students used generative AI to research colleges in autumn 2025, and 18% dropped a college from their list because of it. DRIS tracks which institutions and pages the engines cite for your programme prompts and fixes the pages they draw on.

Every week, DRIS runs the agreed programme prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode and records which institutions are named and which pages are cited. A rival now appears for the part-time MBA prompt, quoted on fees and accreditation. DRIS drafts fixes: fees in plain HTML, accreditation stated with the body’s full name, a dated outcomes table. The SEO and content lead approves every change and claim. Citations are re-checked the following week.

An admissions assistant that says it is AI and never decides admission

From 2 August 2026, Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires that people are told when they are interacting with an AI system unless it is obvious, and Annex III lists AI that determines access or admission to education as high-risk. Convexa answers programme, fee and eligibility questions from approved sources, says it is AI and leaves every admission judgement to admissions staff.

Late at night, an applicant opens chat on the master’s programme page. Convexa says in its first message that it is an AI assistant, answers from the approved fees, entry requirements and deadlines, and asks the agreed questions on intake and prior qualifications. It never tells anyone whether they will be admitted. The director of admissions approves the answer library and handoff rules. Applicants who want more get a counsellor call booked with the transcript attached.

Under-18 leads handled under India’s DPDP Rules and the amended COPPA Rule

India notified the DPDP Rules on 14 November 2025, with verifiable parental consent for children’s data among the duties that start eighteen months later, and the DPDP Act already bars tracking, behavioural monitoring and targeted advertising directed at anyone under 18. In the US, the amended COPPA Rule requires separate parental consent before children’s data is shared for targeted advertising. CORA flags minors in the funnel and keeps them out of ad audiences.

Most enquiries for the entrance exam batch come from school students. CORA reads the date of birth or class on each form, marks minors in LeadSquared and holds them out of Customer Match and retargeting lists. MIRA routes those records to a parent consent flow before any marketing message is sent. The growth lead approves the age rules, the consent wording and every audience before upload. Parents, not students, receive the fee and batch details.

Selection and topper claims checked before the ad runs

By December 2025, India’s Central Consumer Protection Authority had issued 57 notices to coaching institutes and penalised 28 of them, including a fine on one institute that kept claiming successful candidates without saying most had taken only its test series or interview programmes. CREA checks every rank, selection and topper claim against enrolment records before an ad, banner or video reaches review.

Final results are out and the design team has a draft banner of successful candidates. CREA checks each name against enrolment records and finds several took only the mock interview programme. It rewrites the banner so each face carries the course taken, sets the disclaimer at the same size as the claim, and drops two names with no written consent on file. The marketing manager approves the revised banner and its evidence file before release.

International recruitment rebalanced across destinations with dated visa facts

In the 2026 Navitas Agent Perception Survey reported by ICEF Monitor, 82% of agents said applicants now apply to more destination countries, and 80% said visa rejection rates deter even strong applicants. FOLIO keeps destination guides, FAQs and counsellor briefings current, with every visa and work-rights fact dated and sourced.

A destination country announces a change to post-study work rights. FOLIO finds every guide, FAQ and agent briefing that mentions the old rule, drafts updates citing the official source and the date checked, and adds a comparison with two alternative destinations the provider recruits for. CREA rewrites the email to affected applicants. The international marketing manager approves every visa statement and comparison before anything is published or sent to agents.

Recruitment agent network briefed and checked under the UK Agent Quality Framework

The UK’s 2025 immigration white paper said every sponsor wishing to use recruitment agents for overseas students must sign up to the Agent Quality Framework, and in the 2026 Navitas survey over four in ten agents said students rely on them more despite AI tools. NORA researches agencies in growing source markets and SERA keeps each partner briefed and measured.

The university wants applicants from source markets it has barely recruited in. NORA researches agencies there, checking their Agent Quality Framework training, the destinations they represent and their public reviews. SERA drafts a partner briefing with dated course, fee and visa facts, and a scorecard per agent covering applications, offers and visa refusals. Graduate financing explainers after the July 2026 US loan changes

Under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Grad PLUS loans closed to new borrowers from 1 July 2026, and unsubsidised loans for most graduate programmes are capped at $20,500 a year and $100,000 in total. LIPI sends admitted graduate students an explainer built from the financial aid office’s approved content, so cost questions are answered before deposit deadlines.

Admitted master’s students start asking how they will pay now that Grad PLUS is closed to new borrowers. LIPI groups them by programme and aid status in Slate and drafts an explainer from the financial aid office’s approved page: the new annual and lifetime limits, payment plans and institutional scholarships. The graduate enrolment manager and financial aid approve the content and the list. Students with complex cases get a financial aid appointment.

Counsellor calls and texts kept inside TRAI’s 140 series and DND rules

In July 2026 TRAI restated that the 140 series is designated for promotional calls by entities in every sector, and that people who block a sector on the DND registry receive no promotional calls from it. CORA keeps one record of each lead’s consent and opt-outs across calls, texts and WhatsApp, so counsellors only call people who agreed.

A parent asks a counsellor never to call again, and a student replies STOP to a text. CORA records both opt-outs in LeadSquared, applies them across the dialler, SMS and WhatsApp lists, and flags counsellors whose call lists still hold either contact. It also checks that promotional campaigns run only from registered numbers in the series. The admissions operations lead approves the consent rules and every dialler change. Complaints are reviewed weekly.

AI Max for Search set up with programme URL and claim controls

Google’s AI Max for Search adds broad search term matching, text customisation and final URL expansion to existing Search campaigns, so the system can choose the landing page and write parts of the ad. NIA sets URL exclusions so clicks never land on closed intakes or programmes not offered in that market, and checks the generated text against approved claims.

The team turns on AI Max for the online degree campaigns. NIA sets URL exclusions for closed intakes, programmes not open to overseas learners and expired scholarship pages, and reviews matched search terms and generated headlines each week. Any headline promising a job, a salary or a ranking is flagged. The paid search manager approves the settings and removes flagged assets. Cost per application is compared with the earlier setup.

AI-generated course trailers and instructor voices, clearly labelled

Course creators and online programmes now use synthetic voice and avatars to make trailers and lecture previews in many languages. From 2 August 2026, the EU AI Act requires deployers to disclose deep fakes. Alpha labels every synthetic voice or likeness as AI-generated and uses a real instructor’s voice or face only with their written consent.

A new data analytics course needs trailers in several languages. Alpha cuts each from the instructor’s recorded lessons and adds a translated synthetic voiceover, labelled as AI-generated on screen and in the description. The instructor has given written consent for their voice to be cloned for this course only. CREA writes the scripts from the syllabus. The content producer approves every trailer and label before upload, and enrolments are tracked by language.

Frequently asked questions

What changed for education marketing in 2025 and 2026?

Students moved research into AI assistants: an EAB survey reported by ICEF Monitor found 46% of US high school students used generative AI to research colleges in autumn 2025. Agents report applicants spreading across more destinations. India’s DPDP Rules, the amended US COPPA Rule and EU AI Act transparency duties set new dates for consent and disclosure.

Do we have to tell students they are talking to an AI?

For people in the EU, yes, from 2 August 2026 under Article 50 of the EU AI Act, unless it is obvious from the context. Disclosing in the first message is the simplest way to comply in every market. Keep admission decisions with people too: Annex III treats AI that determines admission to education as high-risk.

Can we target ads at students under 18?

Be careful. India’s DPDP Act bars targeted advertising directed at children, meaning anyone under 18, and the DPDP Rules add verifiable parental consent duties. The amended US COPPA Rule requires separate parental consent before children’s data is shared for targeted advertising. Market to parents, keep minors out of uploaded audiences and have counsel confirm your approach.

Which of these should we start first?

Start with the work that has fixed dates or live enforcement: AI disclosure on any chat assistant, parental consent handling for under-18 leads, and evidence checks on result advertising in India. Run answer-engine tracking alongside, because you cannot fix citations you are not measuring. Agent network and financing work can follow the intake calendar.
