Building a team of your own

A worked example. Build four agents, give them Reddit and skills, form a team, add a weekly workflow, and ask the team for a plan in its room.

What you will build

This page walks through one real build: a Reddit marketing team. By the end you have:

  • four agents, a team lead and three specialists who report to it
  • read access to Reddit for each of them, through Monid
  • skills that teach them how Reddit works, imported from one file
  • a team with its own room, charter and reporting line
  • a workflow that drafts a Reddit plan every Monday morning
  • a plan in the room that you can read, accept or send back

Every step happens in the admin. You do not write code, and nothing posts to Reddit until a person approves it. There is also a shorter way to the same four agents and their room, from one message in the builder chat; it is at the end of this page.

Step 1. Build the team lead

Open the Agent Workbench and press + New agent. Under Describe the agent in one line, write the job:

Lead a Reddit marketing team for our brand: plan which subreddits to join, brief a scout, a writer and an analyst, and turn their work into one weekly plan for approval.

The agent builder's first step, with the job described in one line above the Continue button

Press Continue. The builder asks a few questions with an answer already picked, tagged recommended. Change any you disagree with and press Build agent.

The Spec preview on the right shows the agent before it exists. Check three fields near the top:

  • Role: what the agent does in a few words, such as Reddit team lead.
  • Department: pick Marketing, or type a new one.
  • Reports to: tick MIRA, listed by its full name, Market Intelligence for Revenue Acceleration.

Anything else you want changed, ask for in the chat on the left, such as "make it run daily instead". Then press Provision agent. If you can publish agents, it is live straight away and its page opens. If one of its tools still needs approving, the page says so and offers Open the agent.

A new agent starts at L2 Assist, so it asks before it acts. You can raise it later from the agent's Autonomy tab.

Step 2. Build the specialists

Repeat Step 1 for each specialist, and in Reports to tick the team lead, so the reporting line exists from the first minute. One line each is enough:

  • Scout: "Find the subreddits where our buyers talk about the problems we solve, score each for fit, activity and self-promotion rules, and keep a watchlist."
  • Writer: "Draft helpful Reddit replies and posts in our brand voice, checked against each subreddit's rules, for a person to approve."
  • Analyst: "Every Monday, read how our Reddit activity did and report what worked, what did not and what to change."

If the builder says a skill was left out, that skill belongs to another agent. You give skills in Step 4.

Step 3. Give them Reddit

Open Integrations, Monid. Monid is how agents read public sites such as Reddit, paid per call from your credits.

Above the list of endpoints, use Give every Monid endpoint that only reads on and pick reddit. Under Agents that may use them, tick the four Reddit agents and press Give.

The Monid page with Reddit picked in the give every read endpoint panel, above the list of agents

Reads run without an approval card, and one that is billed per result is held to 25 results a call.

To give a single endpoint instead, find it under All Monid endpoints, press Give to an agent, tick the agents and press Give. Tick This endpoint only reads, so it does not need approval each time only when it really only reads.

Posting to Reddit is a different thing: it needs a connected Reddit account through Connecting a tool, and every post waits for approval. You can build and run the whole team without it.

Step 4. Import the skills

A skill is a written method an agent follows. Write the Reddit skills once in one file and import them together.

Open Skills and press Import skills. File format shows the layout, with a sample Markdown and a sample JSON file to start from. Pick your file. One file holds up to 100 skills.

The preview lists every skill with its key and a badge: New, Exists or Needs a fix. Rows that need a fix are left out, so fix the file and pick it again if one shows up.

Under Give to agents (optional), search for and tick the four Reddit agents. Each one gets every imported skill, ready to use, so there is no separate attach step. Press Create 5 skills, or however many your file holds.

Step 5. Make the team

Open Teams and press New team.

  • Name: Reddit team.
  • Department: Marketing.
  • Agents: type a name to find each of the four agents and tick it.
  • Lead: Reddit Team Lead. The lead speaks for the team.
  • Charter: two or three sentences on what the team is for and what it must never do without approval. It becomes the team's charter file.

The New team form with the name, department and the four Reddit agents ticked

Press Create team. The team's room opens.

Step 6. Add a weekly workflow

A workflow runs the team's work on a schedule, so the plan is waiting for you without anyone asking. In the room's workflows panel, press Build a new one for this team. Under New workflow, describe the job in one sentence:

Every Monday, have the Reddit team review last week on Reddit and draft this week's plan.

The New workflow box with the weekly Reddit sentence typed in

Press Build it. The conductor may ask two or three questions, such as where the finished plan should end up, each with a recommended answer. Pick one, and set Reports to to the Reddit team. It then drafts the steps and adds a Monday schedule from your sentence. Read the steps and change anything that is wrong.

A drafted workflow: three agents read last week in parallel, then the team lead drafts the plan

To pick the hour, open Triggers, add a Schedule that runs Weekly on Monday at 9:00 in your timezone, and delete the drafted one. Then press Publish and confirm. Nothing runs until you publish.

Step 7. Ask for the plan

You do not have to wait for Monday. In the team's room, ask the lead:

Draft our Reddit plan for this week: which subreddits to join, what to post and what to reply to.

The lead passes the question to the specialist it suits, here the scout, which looks things up on Reddit before it writes. The lead chooses among the teammates on the roster that are switched on, from their role, description and the tools they hold, and a teammate cannot pass the work on again. Each lookup shows in the room as a line starting Looked this up before writing. When it is done, it saves the plan to a file under runs/ and posts it to the room with Review the work, which opens the file.

Hover over the message for Accept and Send back:

  • Accept closes the review.
  • Send back records that the work was not right. To get a better version, say what to change in a reply.

Under the message, Take it as downloads the plan, and Publish a link shares it with anyone who has the link until you revoke it.

Anything the plan wants to post on Reddit waits in your Inbox for a person to approve.

The short way: ask the chat for the whole team (Beta)

Steps 1, 2 and 5 can be one message. On Build AI Team, write the team into the chat, starting with /team or in plain words:

/team A Reddit marketing team: a lead who owns the weekly plan, a scout who finds the subreddits worth joining, a writer who drafts replies in our voice and an analyst who reports what worked.

The chat drafts the team and shows it before anything is built: the name and kind, each agent with its role and job, the first as team lead and the rest as reports to the lead, the Charter and the Tools it needs, here Reddit. Press Approve once. Every agent is built through the same agent builder as Step 1, with its role, department and reporting line already set, the chat marks each one Built, and it ends with "Opened the room Reddit team" and an Open the room link. The agents are live if you can publish agents; otherwise the report says where to turn them on.

The chat does not give the agents Reddit or import your skills, so Steps 3 and 4 still follow, and the workflow of Step 6 is still added in the room. The details of the proposal card are in creating an agent.
